Urdu Typing on Windows for Police Software

Missal Police Writing (MPW) is Urdu software. Type and print in Nastaleeq after Windows Urdu is set up; sample PDFs on Sample Forms show headings only — they are not a pirated book of the whole missal. If Windows cannot type Urdu, or if Jameel Noori Nastaleeq is missing, forms show empty boxes, Latin letters, or broken joining. This guide is the Windows side of that problem: add Microsoft’s Urdu language pack, choose a keyboard layout, install Nastaleeq from a source you and your IT staff trust, then restart MPW. We do not host Urdu language installers, font files, or font zip archives on missalpolicewriting.pk. We do not link to pirate font packs. Why MPW needs Urdu and Nastaleeq MPW کو اردو اور Nastaleeq کیوں چاہیے

MPW stores case text and prints missal forms in Urdu (with English fields where the form uses them). Windows must offer an Urdu input method. Separately, preview and print expect Jameel Noori Nastaleeq. A language pack without that font can still type, but the page will not look like a station file.

CDR Analyzer is a different product: it analyses operator tables. You do not need Nastaleeq to import Jazz Excel. You need it for MPW. Add Urdu in Windows Settings Windows Settings میں اردو شامل کریں

Use Microsoft’s own language features. Do not download a random “Urdu Windows pack”.exe from a file-sharing site. Exact labels move slightly between Windows 10 and Windows 11, but the path is Settings, not a third-party installer.

Open Settings (Windows key + I).
Open Time & language, then Language & region (Windows 11) or Language (Windows 10).
Choose Add a language.
Search for Urdu. Select the Microsoft Urdu option (often listed as Urdu, Pakistan).
Install the language pack. Stay on the PC until Windows finishes. A restart may be requested; if so, save MPW work first.
Confirm Urdu appears in your language list. Optional: keep Windows display language in English if that is how the rest of the station works; you only need Urdu as an input language.

If Settings cannot download the pack, the PC may lack a network path to Microsoft Update, or a local policy may block language features. Ask your IT staff. We cannot ship Microsoft’s language files from this website.

Example (not a real case): a new investigation PC has only English. The officer types accused names in Roman Urdu inside MPW. Print looks like “Ali Raza” in Latin on a zimni that the rest of the district prints in Nastaleeq. Adding the language pack, then switching the keyboard, is the fix — not a new MPW download.

After Urdu is installed, Windows adds at least one keyboard layout. Common choices include a phonetic layout (you type approximate English sounds) and layouts that follow older hardware. Pick the one your station already uses so two officers can share a desk.

Click the language letters on the taskbar (ENG / اردو) or press the Windows key + Space to switch.
In MPW, click a Urdu field, switch to Urdu, then type. Switching after the field is focused avoids dumping English into an Urdu name box.
If the taskbar shortcut is missing, Settings → Time & language → Typing → Advanced keyboard settings (wording varies) can show the desktop language bar.

Practise in a test case, not in a live FIR. Create a dummy file, type a few names, and delete it. Live particulars belong in the register first: fill FIR data in MPW.

Jameel Noori Nastaleeq from trusted sources قابلِ اعتماد ذرائع سے Jameel Noori Nastaleeq

Jameel Noori Nastaleeq is a third-party font. HR Solutions did not author it. missalpolicewriting.pk does not host a.ttf,.otf, or zip of this font. We will not point you at a “full font pack” on a random download portal. Those zips are a common way to also deliver malware onto a police PC that holds case data.

What to do instead:

Ask your district IT or the officer who already prints clean missals which source they used, and whether it was a trusted or vendor-licensed copy.
Prefer a Jameel Noori distribution or another source your organisation has already vetted (for example a government or licensed office package). Verify the file the same way you would verify any installer: known origin, no unexpected “password to unzip” from a stranger.
Install for all users if several logins print from the same PC (IT can do this). A font installed only for one Windows account will vanish when the next shift logs in.
After install, the font should appear in Windows’ font list with the name Jameel Noori Nastaleeq (or the exact family name on the trusted package).

We do not encourage copying fonts in breach of their licence. If your unit needs a licensed copy, obtain it through the proper channel. “Everyone in the district already has it on a USB” is not a source you can defend if the USB also carried a modified MPW.exe. Pair this with download safety for our software packages.

Windows applications read the font list at launch. If MPW was open while you installed Nastaleeq, close it fully (check the system tray) and open it again. Then open a form preview. If you skip the restart, you may still see boxes and assume the font failed.

If you installed MPW before the language pack, you do not need to reinstall MPW. You need the pack, the font, and a restart. Re-downloading MPW from a chat group will not add Urdu. Always use the Download page for Missal Police Writing.

Boxes, tofu, or empty squares on screen

The form is asking for glyphs the current font file does not have. Confirm Jameel Noori Nastaleeq is listed in Windows Fonts. If it is missing, install from a trusted source as above. If it is present, restart MPW. Do not keep printing; you will waste Legal paper. See the print guide after preview is clean.

Letters appear but do not join (broken Nastaleeq)

You may be on a fallback font (for example a Naskh or a web font) instead of Jameel Noori. Check that MPW was restarted on the same Windows user that received the font. Avoid “compatibility” modes that force older raster printing if IT has not asked for them.

Keyboard types English in Urdu fields

The language bar is still on ENG. Switch with Windows + Space. If Urdu is not in the list, the language pack is not installed — return to Settings. A phonetic layout will still produce English if you have not switched.

Preview is fine, printer is boxes

The printer driver or a print-to-PDF path may not embed the font. Print a one-page test from MPW to the same tray you use for zimni. If the PDF printer strips Nastaleeq, print to the station laser instead, or ask IT how that driver embeds Unicode fonts. Paper size mismatches are a different issue (A4 vs Legal) — again, the print guide.

Only one Windows user can type Urdu

The language pack or font was installed per-user. Have IT add Urdu and Nastaleeq for each officer account, or install for all users. Night-shift logins are a common surprise.

If MPW itself will not launch, that is install or SmartScreen, not Urdu: install troubleshooting. Email screenshots of Settings and the Fonts list to missalpolice@gmail.com or WhatsApp 0319 6662707 via Contact — do not send live FIR pages.

To be explicit:

No Urdu language-pack installer.
No Jameel Noori Nastaleeq.ttf/.otf and no font zip.
No “phonetic keyboard” third-party setup from this domain.
No third-party MPW with fonts “already inside.”

We provide Missal Police Writing and CDR Analyzer packages as .rar on the Download page. Everything else that Windows needs for Urdu should come from Microsoft (language) and from trusted or trusted font sources (Nastaleeq). Other articles and the Resources hub assume this split.

Example (not a real case): an officer searches the web for a font zip from an unknown site. That is why we refuse to host or recommend unverified font archives. Use the Windows language pack. Use a Jameel Noori copy your IT can name.

When typing and preview look right:

Open a test form — not a live chalan if you can avoid it.
Confirm margins and paper size (A4 or Legal) as in how to print MPW forms.
Print one page. Check dots, nuqta, and joining under office light.
Only then print the live missal. Wrong font plus fifty pages is a long afternoon.
